APRISE: Alternative Proteins Research and Innovation Skills Enhancement

APRISE is a Horizon Europe project funded under the ERA Talents programme. It works to strengthen research and innovation capacity in alternative proteins through training, international mobility, career support and cooperation between academic and non-academic organisations.

The four-year project brings together 18 partners from 11 countries. The consortium includes 5 academic and 13 non-academic organisations, with 11 partners based in Widening Countries and 7 in Non-Widening Countries. This structure connects universities, research centres, companies, civil society organisations and professional training providers across Europe.

During its first year, APRISE has selected more than 55 research talents to take part in project activities. Participants receive scientific, digital, entrepreneurial and communication training, supported by mentoring, career development plans and opportunities to work in different institutional settings.

More than 250 secondments will be organised during the project. These placements will allow researchers, research managers and support staff to gain experience in universities, companies, NGOs and innovation organisations. APRISE plans to deliver more than 60 training events covering alternative protein science, research management, entrepreneurship, open science, communication and responsible research practices.

The project is organised around five main areas: talent mobility, skills development, innovation integration, institutional transformation, and society and policy. Through these activities, APRISE supports the transfer of knowledge between countries and sectors and helps participating institutions develop stronger research support systems.

Pipeline of APRISE

APRISE aims to support the professional development of more than 55 people through training, mentoring and mobility. The project will produce open-access training materials, institutional development plans and mobility frameworks that can be adapted by other organisations. Its work contributes to a more connected, inclusive and regionally responsive alternative protein research community in Europe.
