Who can apply as an undergraduate researcher in the laboratory?

Students who wish to apply must be at least in their second year of study.

First-year students may also apply; however, they will only be placed on the application list and will not be considered in the active recruitment process.

When can I apply?

Recruitment of undergraduate researchers takes place throughout the year depending on the laboratory’s needs.

However, applications are more frequently evaluated during the summer and at the beginning of academic semesters.

What documents are required for application?

To apply, simply send a short email to the address provided on our website including the following information:

  • Your full name
  • Your current year of study
  • A short paragraph explaining why you would like to work as a researcher in our laboratory.

How are applications evaluated?

Candidates are contacted according to the laboratory’s needs, with priority given to 3rd and 4th year students. Priority candidates are asked to submit their class schedules.

Students whose schedules are compatible with laboratory activities are evaluated further. Schedule compatibility means being able to spend at least two days per week in the laboratory, preferably:

  • Either by combining half-day blocks (morning or afternoon) to make up at least one full day per week
  • or by having two entirely free days in their weekly schedule

What happens in the preliminary interview?

During the interview:

  • Information is provided about the laboratory’s operations, working structure, and rules.
  • The candidate may be asked short questions related to the subject of the potential project.

After this step, suitable candidates are referred to the graduate researcher (project leader) responsible for the relevant project. Project leaders may conduct a one-on-one interview and make the final decision regarding participation.

What responsibilities do selected students take on?

Undergraduate researchers will:

  • Actively participate in national and international projects.
  • Take part in research methodology, experimental design, and data collection.
  • Gain practical knowledge of chemical safety and laboratory organization.
  • Improve skills in responsibility, time management, problem-solving, and scientific communication.
  • Gain first-hand experience in a scientific research environment.
